How To Get a library card
How Old Are you?
If you’re 18 or older, bring a photo ID with your current address. If it doesn’t have a current address, a piece of mail or other official document with your address is acceptable. If you don’t have a photo ID, another form of identification along with a piece of mail that has your address is acceptable.
If you’re under 18, a parent or guardian with a photo ID as stated above will need to be present to sign for your card. Children are eligible for a library card if they’ve completed kindergarten or are at least 6 years old.
What Municipality do you live in?
Three municipalities currently support the library: Town of Greenville, Sugar Grove Township, and Hempfield Township. Residents of those municipalities are eligible for free cards.
If you don’t live in one of those three municipalities, and your municipality doesn’t have its own library, you will need to pay $15 a year for a card that’s good for anyone in the family. If your municipality does have its own library, bring that card with you to get a free card with us, through the Access PA program. Alternatively, a summer card, good for use from Memorial Day to Labor Day, can be purchased for $5.
THen what?
You’ll be asked to fill out a registration form at one of the circulation desks. Your card will be issued at that time. You will be able to check out a limited number of items on your first transactions. For more information on that, check out our Circulation & Borrowing Policy.
How long is my card good for?
Fee cards are good for twelve months from the time they are issued.
Free cards are good for three years.
Summer cards expire at Labor Day of the year they are issued.
If your card is expired, stop by one of the circulation desks to renew. You’ll be starting the process all over, so make sure your have your ID. If you have moved since your initial card was issued, you may be in a fee area; see the “What municipality do you live in?” section above.
