August Announcements

We have some very exciting programs coming up this month. I hope you'll be able to make it out to enjoy them.

As part of a grant through the Institute of Museum and Library Sciences, Erie Arts and Culture presents three Erie folk artists here at the library. For the first three Tuesday nights of August, come out to hear music and tales from around the world in our World Music Series.

David Kambowa, a singer, composer, and keyboard player from the Democratic Republic of Congo, will be here on August 6 to share African Gospel music. On August 13, Nibal Abd El Karim, a traditional singer from Palestine, will present children's songs in Arabic, Swahili, Bosnian, Nepali and Russian. Lastly, Clarisse Amani will be visiting on August 20 to share Congolese songs, stories, and culture

This project is made possible in part by federal funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, Office of Commonwealth Libraries.

A little closer to home, Scott Woods will be presenting some local history on August 21 with his talk entitled Pictures of the Bessemer Railroad's Greenville Shops in the 30s, 40s, and 50s. Get a look into the past as Scott opens up the collections of the Greenville Railroad Park & Museum.

Our Beanstack Adult Summer Reading Challenge continues through August. Complete as many activities as you can to earn tickets for prize drawings. You get a ticket just for registering, getting a bingo, or completing all of the activities.

The prizes are a $50 gas card, a $50 gift card to Leana's Books & More, and a $50 gift card to Carried Away Outfitters, so you can take on more adventures. You get to chose which drawings you enter. Make sure to submit your tickets for the drawing by August 24.

The next time you're in the library, check out the Summer Reading t-shirts from years past that are on sale. Selection and sizes are limited; check the list next to the hanging shirts for availability. When you know what you want, tell us at the desk. Shirts are on sale for $5 each and the proceeds go towards summer reading.

We are changing to our new regular hours:

Tuesday, Wednesay, and Thursday 9am-8pm

Friday & Saturday 9am-4:30pm

We will be closed for Labor Day weekend on August 31.

I hope to see you soon!
