June Announcements

We are really excited about everything we have planned for this month! This year's summer reading theme is "Adventure Begins At Your Library." You're invited to explore new programs, new places, and maybe revisit some of your favorites.

A couple of the new programs include VR Vacations, a chance to get away without having to leave town, and Chess Club, for adults who wants to keep their skills sharp. Our new Trope-ical Book Club starts up this month, as well. We have a series of local interest lectures scheduled each month all summer. For June, local author Todd Bromely will be here to talk about his book Depravity in the Darkness.

Another way you can participate in our summer reading program is to sign up for our Beanstack Adult Summer Reading Challenge. Complete as many activities as you can to earn tickets for prize drawings. You get a ticket just for registering, getting a bingo, or completing all of the activities.

The prizes are a $50 gas card, a $50 gift card to Leana's Books & More, and a $50 gift card to Carried Away Outfitters, so you can take on more adventures. You get to chose which drawings you enter.

In other news, we're cleaning out our closets and have some t-shirts from previous summer reading programs for sale! Stop by the coat rack in Fiction to see examples of the available shirts. Selection and sizes are limited; check the list next to the hanging shirts for availability. When you know what you want, let us know at the desk. Shirts are on sale for $5 each and the proceeds go towards summer reading.

You can also help programming all year long by being part of PA/OH Gives. We raised over $12,500 in the last two years combined for the library. Our goal this year is $10,000. PA/OH Gives is hosted by the Community Foundation of Western PA & Eastern OH. Look for more information as we get closer to Giving Week, June 22-28, 2024.

When you give, the library receives your gift, a percentage of your giving is matched through the program sponsors (last year it was a 15% match), and there is the possibility for further funds through participation incentives - We get additional support for each individual who participates! It truly matters more that you give, not how much you give.

The Friends of the Library started collecting used books on May 29. These donations should be taken to the First United Methodist Church, 73 Clinton Street. The Friends will be there Monday 1-3, Wednesday 6-8, Friday 10-noon. We are not accepting book donations at the library.

Lastly, for June & July our hours are as follows:

Tuesday, Wednesay, and Thursday 9am-8pm

Friday 9am-4:30pm

Saturday 9am-1:30pm

I hope to see you soon!
